Remember the BIG boxes !? LOL ofcourse my fav was also the Horror Room with all the garish covers/intepretation of what was hidin inside ! ofcourse looking back today at more innocent time of what was shocking- and in many cases- more acceptable than today – it seems like a great secret I want to discover and explore piece by timecapsule piece.

Of course, a high end version of a lowbrow concept always emerges victorious at a safe ironic distance in the end. For me, this was a celebration of the ugly as beautiful and if it wasn’t pretty in the conventional sense…it actually made me think about the content and the presentation. Which is always the beginning of any discussion about what is art and what is not….yes?

Happily, it was the horror section. When the Yuppies would come in looking for the newest art house release I was always eager to suggest an unlikely cohit. “Yes, THE SHOOTING PARTY is in… but would you like to piggyback that with ROTTWEILER?”
