I had read that Roland West had implied to Chester Morris that his involvement with Thelma Todd had led to her demise before, but your presentation of the known story weaves an even greater mystery about this interesting filmmaker, the unfortunate Miss Todd and the often sketchy characters who were attracted to the fringes of Hollywood. To cap it all off, you reminded me of one of those actresses who seemed destined for disappointment, despite her memorable, strangely vulnerable yet often hard presence in films and her checkered marital and extra-marital record: Lola Lane.

Could she be a possible subject of one of your future excellent profiles? Great stuff, Suzi. You should write a mystery.

wow. this is a very rich post suzidoll. I was interested in how so early in films the public taste for horror films was in in full force. I caught myself thinking ( sadly...) what would TMZ have done with the story of Thelma Todd's death. I am fascinated in this blog by the idea of the more things change the more things stay the same. I am hoping tcm will have some roland west films soon. really interesting... and glad you got it posted.......
