I love Christopher plummer, I cannot wait for his book to reach Australia. I think the dance seen in the sound of music is one of the most romantic scene of any movie ever produced

I have just finished watching Sound of music, And I still thik it is one of the greatest movies ever made. ChrIstopher Plummer was great, and so romantic. I first saw the movie in 1967 and in 1968 I called my 4th son Christopher after Chris Plummer.

Reading this interview, I was so impressed with how knowledgeable Mr. Plummer seems to be on a variety of subjects -- I especially loved his comments on Michael Kidd (funny thing, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS and THE SOUND OF MUSIC are my two favorite films). I wasn't certain how interested I'd be in his book but I have no doubt now that I'll be purchasing and enjoying it. Thanks for a great interview.

Best wishes,
Laura

Well, that is a true story you know and I’ll never forget him [Palance] throwing his costume offstage in a rage because the critics hadn’t recognized that he had worked very hard

What is it with Jack Palance and throwing clothes? Christopher Mitchum tells a story about making some Italo-crime film with Palance and when Palance felt he'd done all he wanted to do on the project he threw his costume overboard into the sea so that, even if they wanted him to appear in an additional scene, he couldn't because his costume wouldn't match.

Mr. Plummer is truly one of Canada's greatest treasures. I've always been a fan of his films and finally had the chance to see him perform in the play he speaks about Caesar and Cleopatra in Stratford a few weeks back. The man is full of energy on stage and hopefully they do get this filmed as his leading lady was wonderful as well.
And yes The Silent Partner (rare) is a must see.

Thankyou Mr. Plummer

Thank you both for your comments. I had forty five minutes with Plummer and could have gone on for hours. The man has worked with practically every major stage and film actor and director of the 20th century and has incredible stories about them all. Yes, I wanted to get around to TRIPLE CROSS and EYEWITNESS, a fun, quirky 1981 thriller. I also wanted to know more about some actors and directors he'd worked with such as Kate Reid, Janet Munro, Klaus Kinski (they were in NOSFERATU IN VENICE together), John Huston, Natalie Wood, Nicholas Ray, Gypsy Rose Lee, Sidney Lumet and Spike Lee (Plummer was in MALCOLM X).

This is a glorious surprise to find here, Jeff. Thanks so much. I'm currently in the middle of reading Mr. Plummer's beautifully written memoir, which dazzles just as much for his playful use of language as for his seemingly bottomless store of theatrical and cinematic lore. My only objection to this book is that I don't want it to end. I'm so glad that you asked CP about The Royal Hunt of the Sun (1969) and The Silent Partner which feature two of the more daring performances in modern movies by this actor. Wish that you'd had a chance to discuss the real life conman-safecracker Eddie Chapman character he played with such dash in Triple Cross(1966)!

Like his book, I think this detailed interview could have been twice as long. It was very enjoyable.
Thanks again,
Moira

What a lovely and informed interview with Plummer! He sounds like an intelligent and cultured man, with such gracious and savvy assessments of his fellow performers. He must have loved doing this interview with you -- your questions were excellent and elicited some terrific responses.

Wonderful! Really enjoyed reading this!
