“Mother! Mother! Blog! Blog!”Well, it’s that time again… October, the Season of the Witch. In addition to listening to ghoulish music, reading ye olde ghost tales and watching a never-ending flood of horror movies, I like to keep current with some of my favorite movie blogs, some of whom are going all out for Halloween. In no particular order… Lazy Eye Theatre has been rechristened Evil Eye Theatre for the duration of the month. Check out recent posts on things more evil than an evil clown and a roundtable discussion on the state of modern horror featuring Frankenstein’s Monster, Pinhead and Papa Smurf. Things do get ugly. Over at Cinema Styles, Jonathan Lapper has inaugurated his October Kill Fest with some devilish digital chicanery (in your face, Bing Crosby!), a new twist on the holiday favorite IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (don’t watch it with the kids) and some points to ponder courtesy of natty horror icon Christopher Lee. At Moon in the Gutter, Jeremy Richey is devoting the entire month to discussions of John Carpenter’s seminal slasher HALLOWEEN, which turns 30 this year. Alongside Jeremy’s nimble and thoughtful prose are tribute polls (pick your favorite sequel) and rare behind-the-scenes photos. Every day is Halloween for the minds behind Kindertrauma, where you can find confessions of childhood nightmares spawned by mindless entertainment, a sausage surprise recipe you won’t soon forget and some traum-mercials that will scar your soul (no, I really mean that) and what has to be the scariest album cover ever. Just scroll down through some of the more recent posts. You’ll know it when you find it.
Frankensteinia is always a good time and host Pierre Fournier is a gracious and affable host in possession of an encyclopedia-like brain (which is to say it’s very heavy and dry) about all things related to Mary Shelley’s undying Creature. Did you know you missed Frankenstein Day this year? You wouldn’t have, if you read Frankensteinia more often. This trick-or-treat bag is nowhere near to being empty. Stay tuned. 5 Responses “Mother! Here’s a link to the blog Suzi’s raving about! If I weren’t such an Evil Clown, I might actually like the fact that you linked to Evil Eye Theatre. But being that I’m Evil, I can only sit back and think of ways to terrify small creatures with blunt and rusty instruments. I’m so predictable that way. Hey Richard, Hey, leave small creatures alone. There are plenty of corporate CEOs out there who could use your brand of spa treatment. Leave a Reply |

I work at Facets Multi-media in Chicago, and Phil, our trusty blog caretaker, is doing a “31 Days of Horror Clips” for the Facets website to celebrate Halloween. We are all big horror film fans here at Facets. Each day Phil posts an entertaining clip from well-known, not-so-well-known, and downright obscure horror films and shows. Saturday’s clip was from an old television series called TALES OF TERROR, featuring an episode in which Lon Chaney Jr. plays Frankenstein. It is fun to see what he comes up with every day. Anyone who loves horror films should check it out and leave a comment.
