I am a huge Kinski fan, admired his work enormously. And my heart aches when I think of the roles he never GOT to do, because of his 'insanity' and, because, as one wag said, he had a 'personality like a freakin' bouquet of elbows". Well, an interesting side trip to imagine the Kinski that might have been? "Little Drummer Girl", with Diane Keaton. He's simply terrific as an Israeli intelligence officer. Cool, dedicated, intense without all the foaming at the mouth, not even once. And I also thought to myself as I was watching, "Jesus wouldn't he have made a kick-ass James Bond villain against, say, Timothy Dalton, or Sean Connery? True, some of that was mental illness, and some of it was hype. But I feel, as many do, that cinema is a duller place without El Kinski.

I absolutely LOVE Klaus Kinski, god rest his soul.

I have Kinski Uncut, All I Need Is Love, Kinski Paganini, Burden of Dreams, and lots of other Kinski films. I think he was a truly brilliant man and we have no one like him today. Remember how much he loved and adored Nanhoi.

By the way, does anyone know the origin of the photo at the top of this page? The one of Klaus with a leafy crown?

For a while, Kinski films were a staple on 42nd Street in the mid-60s. His Wallace thrillers and his Italian westerns were often part of a double bill. His intensity on the screen made us take note of the name and we then began to search for more Kinski. Been a fan ever since.

Two years ago, I was surprised to pick up a copy of Kinski Uncut at a local library. Bluer than blue but so appropriate in a hysterical sense.

I had the great fortune to meet Werner Herzog around that time, he referred to Kinski as a mad genius but obviously didn't want to elaborate on the relationship.

I haven't dared make the descent into Kinski Paginini but I suppose I should because I do love the man and I will say this about him - there isn't a picture of him that looks out of date. He really was ahead of his -- and this -- time.

It bears noting that Kinski Uncut is the unexpurgated version of his memoirs, which were heavily edited when published under the title All I Need is Love. However, I would imagine the cut down version would be harder to find than the fuller and more recent release.
