I've been thinking about John Ford a lot lately. Just got back from Portland, Maine, where Ford is from. I've also produced the promos airing on TCM that are pushing the month of Ford films in November. Moreover, I recently perused a biography on Akira Kurosawa, another favorite filmmaker of mine. And in the bio, the author touches upon a meeting between Ford and Kurosawa, sometime in the 1950s, I think. Could you imagine what that meeting must've been like? Two lions of global cinema each showing great respect and mutual admiration for each other. To be a speck on the wall, what I wouldn't give.
The two had a lot in common, tempermentally, thematically, and professionally. I should write a book about the two sides to this coin…
I should probably clear my schedule first.
